An agronomy degree thesis from Santa Marta combining a pot trial at the university farm, with seed sown in July and August 1974, and a study of moulds on stored marijuana from warehouses of the region. The lots are of two varieties the thesis says are popularly known as "negra" and "mona"; the mona was the more prone to attack by fungus. The thesis relays press reports of fields in Nariño, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Sevillano in Ciénaga and Chocó near the Panamanian border, and cites El Espectador of 3 December 1972 on the condemnation by the Academia de Medicina de Medellín of marijuana used there against arthritis and asthma.
