Odisha (Orissa) General Population 2024 is a landrace cannabis accession from Odisha, India, listed as Odisha (Orissa) in the seed catalogue of The Real Seed Company (RSC).[1] RSC describes it as an East Indian ganja landrace, a classic Sativa, whose bud is often sold under the underground brand name Orissa Gold.[1] The line is out of stock at RSC and on its Kwik Seeds site, where it is listed as Odisha – Orrisa Gold (checked 27 October 2026).[1][2]
Geography
RSC gives a latitude of 18° N. It writes that the tropical coastal region of Odisha and its inland jungle highlands are close to the likely centre of origin of Sativas and of the sinsemilla technique, and that ganja has long been both a household herb and a commercial crop there.[1]
History
RSC writes that the method of removing the male plants to produce a harvest of seedless, resinous buds is already strongly implied in the Ānandakanda, a 15th-century alchemical compendium compiled at Srisailam, in the inland jungle highlands immediately south of Odisha. It describes the regions of eastern India along the Bay of Bengal as centres from which Sativa landraces spread to regions such as Thailand and East Africa during the Age of Sail.[1]
Collection Details
Cultivation Details
RSC gives the purpose as ganja (seedless or lightly seeded buds), about five to six months from seed to harvest, and greenhouse or outdoor growing. It writes that, at close to five months, the Odia landrace is markedly earlier than the typical six-month Sativas of Thailand and Laos, which it attributes, as likely, to decades of pressure from police eradication of the crop.[1]
Botanical Characteristics
RSC gives a height of about 2 metres and describes classic narrow leaflets and a tropical architecture that is typically heavily branched and tends towards a Christmas-tree shape, with some creeping or bushy variants. It lists mint, fruit and old-school ganja scents and an intensely stimulating, energising high with a trippy edge like that of good Lao and Thai ganja.[1]
