1990 RSC Cretan IBL is a landrace cannabis accession from Rethymno on Crete, Greece, listed as Cretan in the seed catalogue of The Real Seed Company (RSC).[1] RSC classifies the line as both a landrace and an heirloom and names Delicorganic as the source of its seed.[1] Kwik Seeds, which RSC calls its other site,[2] lists the same line as a Greek-Cretan drug-type domesticate.[3]
Geography
The listings trace the seed to the mountainous region of Rethymno, at a latitude of about 35° N.[1][3] According to RSC, the line is adapted to conditions in the mountainous regions of Crete, where summer days reach 40 to 45 °C and strong winds blow at elevations of 400 to 500 metres.[1]
Collection Details
RSC states that the seeds were collected in the early 1990s, and both listings give Delicorganic as the source of the seed; that collection is recorded at Cretan General Population 1990.[1] Neither names the original collector or says how many generations the line has been grown since collection.[1][3] RSC files Cretan among its heirlooms, a category it defines as inbred lines that have undergone generations of selective inbreeding in the West.[4]
Cultivation Details
RSC describes a long tradition of guerrilla cannabis cultivation on Crete. According to the listing, farmers planted on rocky slopes to avoid police helicopters.[1] RSC reports that the plants adapted in turn to growing untended in rocky soil with little water and no fertiliser. It attributes the vigour of the line and its tolerance of environmental stress to these methods.[1]
RSC reports that outdoors on Crete the line finishes in the second half of October after 11 to 12 weeks of flowering. It gives an outdoor yield of 500 to 600 grams of dried flowers per plant.[1]
Botanical Characteristics
RSC reports that the plants stretch less than a pure Sativa and can reach 3 to 4 metres, with strong branching and short internodes.[1] RSC gives the height as up to 4 metres and Kwik Seeds as 3 to 4 metres.[1][3] RSC lists light-green to gold flowers.[1]
RSC gives the line's purpose as bud or dry-sieved hashish; Kwik Seeds gives bud or hashish.[1][3] Both descriptions add that Cretan is cultivated for bud production, although the line has many characteristics of the hash-plant type.[1]
RSC reports a complex cannabinoid profile that includes minor cannabinoids, with medium-high THC of 10 to 13 per cent and markedly low CBD.[1] RSC links a genotype report on Delicorganic's Cretan line published by Phylos.[5] According to RSC, the report indicates a very rare landrace genotype with no known direct relatives.[1]
Aroma
RSC lists herbal, earthy and woody aromas with eucalyptus, helichrysum, turmeric and dittany. It describes the taste as hashy and herbal.[1]
Effects
RSC compares the effects with those of other Greek cultivars such as Kalamata Red: energetic and creative in small doses but intense, calming and mildly trippy in larger ones.[1] It summarises the high as intense, calming and long-lasting, with a slight body effect.[1]
