Poilane 2365 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at Ban na Punh in Xieng Khouang, Laos, on 19 November 1920 by Eugène Poilane. The Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle holds the sheet as P06884284.[1] The label records the plant as cultivated by the Meo and gives a Lao name for it.
Collection and locality
The handwritten label is headed AUG. CHEVALIER, PLANTES DE L'INDOCHINE and numbered P N° 2365. It reads Laos. Xieng Khuang province Tranninh, dated 19-11-20, Coll. Poilane, and Cultivé chez les Meos de Ban na Punh.[2] A printed slip beside it reads Institut Scientifique de Saigon., M. POILANE. Reçu le 20 Mai 1921.[2]
Recorded local name and use
The label gives the name as Laotien: Ko phai meo, followed by the same name in Lao script, and describes the plant as Chanvre de 2m50 de haut (hemp 2).5 m tall.[2]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries a fruiting branch. A pencil determination on the label reads Cannabinées; the catalogue records the plant as Cannabis sativa L., determined by Querido, and gives the field note 2m50 de haut.[2][1]
