Marine Police seize 2,213 slabs of suspected cannabis from an abandoned canoe at Ada
Graphic Online reported a Ghana Police Service statement of 18 September 2026 that the Marine Police detachment at Ada intercepted an outboard-powered wooden canoe on the River Volta at Tuanikopey Island at about 00.45 on 17 September 2026 during a patrol. The occupants abandoned the vessel and swam away, and no arrest was made. A search recovered 29 sacks holding 2,213 slabs of dried plant material suspected to be cannabis and wrapped in yellow tape, together with 14 twenty-five-litre containers, 12 of them holding pre-mixed fuel, and two outboard motors of 40 and 30 horsepower. The statement, signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu of the Tema Regional Police Command, said the material was taken to the Ada district police headquarters as an exhibit and that the command was working to identify those who fled.
