Department of Narcotics Control reports 29.34 kg of kush seized from Indian arrivals from Bangkok in two months

Bangladesh's Department of Narcotics Control told bdnews24.com that about 29.34 kg of the cannabis product sold as kush was recovered in five operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka during July and August 2026, four of them in August, and that six Indian nationals were arrested in the course of them. The department gave four August interceptions: 5.12 kg from two men from West Bengal arriving from Bangkok on 27 August, 5.04 kg concealed beneath Indian sarees from two men from North 24 Parganas on 24 August, 3 kg from a man from Karnataka arriving on a Thai Airways flight on 22 August and 4.18 kg from two trolley bags abandoned by two Kolkata residents who fled on 18 August and remain at large. A July operation accounted for the remainder. Mohammad Badruddin, additional director for intelligence, said kush is not commonly used in Bangladesh, that the quantities now being intercepted suggest the country is being used as a gateway rather than a destination, and that no direct evidence of an effort to build a local market has yet been found. Mohammad Abu Sayeed Mia, assistant director for Dhaka Metro North, said every case follows the same pattern and that no link to a network inside Bangladesh has yet been established. Cases were filed with Shahjalal Airport Police Station. The report notes earlier domestic cases, including a Rapid Action Battalion arrest in Gulshan in August 2022 over a grow tent operation in Mohammadpur, a January 2026 case in Wari and a Border Guard Bangladesh seizure of 12 kg at Satkhira on 6 August 2026 being smuggled into India.
