Gendarmerie seizes 71.6 kg of cannabis resin on the East West Highway in Chlef

Horizons reported on 5 September 2026 that the National Gendarmerie's research and investigation squadron in Chlef had intercepted a commercial vehicle travelling on the East West Highway and recovered 71.6 kilograms of kif traité concealed beneath its chassis. According to the report the interception followed targeted intelligence work, and two members of what the authorities described as a transnational network were arrested at the scene. The vehicle was impounded together with mobile telephones said to have been used to coordinate the movement. The report states that the suspects would be brought before the competent judicial authorities once the investigation was complete.
