Myingyan District Court sentences a Myotha Industrial Park farm employee to 20 years over the cannabis plants seized in 2019
The Irrawaddy reported that the Myingyan District Court in Mandalay Region sentenced a 37-year-old Myanmar employee of the III M Global Nutraceutical Company's plantation at Myotha Industrial Park to 20 years in prison under the Anti-Narcotics Law on 10 March 2020. He had installed the plantation's irrigation system and told the court that he was a technician with no responsibility for the plantation and would appeal. He had been arrested in April 2019 with a US citizen and with an intern and interpreter, who was released by the court in February 2020. The court had issued an arrest warrant for the US citizen, who stopped attending court while on medical bail. The US citizen had said the crop was hemp grown with the Mandalay Region chief minister's permission.
