Frontier Myanmar reports a KNDF-protected cannabis dispensary in Demoso whose owner grows about 100 acres
Frontier Myanmar reported on Myanmar cannabis businesses setting up in Thailand after its decriminalisation in 2022 and on a dispensary in Myanmar. The dispensary, first called Moe Ma Kha and then De Culture Cannabis, opened in mid-2022 under the protection of the Karenni National Defence Force (KNDF) in rural Demoso Township, Kayah State. It offers about 20 strains. Its owner, Ko Win Oo, a KNDF fighter, said he was encouraging local opium farmers to grow cannabis instead of poppies and was growing cannabis that season on about 100 acres of land, but that finding a larger market was a challenge. The report said that neither the National Unity Government nor the ethnic armed organisations allied to it had publicly supported legalising the drug.
