KNU orders a third drive against cannabis in Lu Thaw Township after destroying 4,673 plants in 2012
Karen News reported that the Karen National Union's Mutraw District office had ordered the township official in Lu Thaw to search out and destroy all cannabis still growing there, in the third such campaign by the district's leaders. P'doh Kler Say, secretary of the district's Organization Department, said that villagers who had fled the army and were hiding in the jungle in the Pla Ko, Ler Mu Plaw, Kay Pu, Saw Mu Plaw and Na Yo Hta village tracts had begun growing cannabis two years earlier. The district leaders destroyed 4,673 plants in 2012. The KNU said the drug was still grown in isolated areas it could not reach.
