Tha Sae police seize more than 5,000 cannabis plants and seedlings in a palm plantation in Chumphon

Naewna reported that Tha Sae police, acting on a statement by a detained drug user, searched a palm plantation off Soi Ruam Mit in Moo 2, Hong Charoen subdistrict, with officers of Salui police, in whose area it lay. They found 2,100 seedlings in plastic bags behind shade netting; more than 1,000 plants over 1.5 m tall inside a netting wall around more than 4 rai; more than 1,000 bagged seedlings in a nursery. The report put the total at more than 5,000. The grower produced a letter from the Chumphon provincial chief medical officer, dated 21 May 2019 and issued in the name of a community enterprise, for possession of 2,000 cannabis seeds as a Category 5 narcotic; he said he grew cannabis to make oil for poor cancer patients and to sell. Police charged him with possessing a Category 5 narcotic without permission; soldiers and district officials uprooted the plants as evidence.
