Dating

Karen News published the report on 3 July 2013. It dates neither the district meeting that ordered the new campaign, which it calls "recent", nor the destruction of 2012 beyond the year. The stored date is the publication date.

Quantities

The stored count, 4,673 plants, is the destruction of 2012. Karen News writes "destroyed 4,673 marijuana plants (equal to 4,673 viss)". The Irrawaddy (5 July 2013), summarising the Karen News report, says "KNU Mutraw District leaders say they destroyed around 7,500 kg of marijuana last year". No count is given for the 2013 campaign.

Source discrepancies

A viss is "1.5 kilogram" in Karen News and "approximately 1.6 kg" in The Irrawaddy. The first price paid by traders is "around 500,000kyat (around US$513)" a viss in Karen News and "around US $500 for per viss" in The Irrawaddy. Both say the price has since doubled. This news item follows Karen News.

Place

Karen News writes both "Lu Taw Township" and "Lu Thaw". It writes "village tracks" for village tracts; this news item uses Lu Thaw. Mutraw District is the Karen National Union's district. The district field gives Hpapun District, the government district that holds Lu Thaw.

Map pin

This news item has no map pin. The report names five village tracts and no single site. Only Na Yo Hta could be matched to a gazetteer point. Lu Thaw Township has no outline or seat to pin.

Burma News International reprinted the Karen News report on 3 July 2013 with the same text. The Irrawaddy summary of 5 July 2013 is quoted above.
