Mexican helicopters reported spraying paraquat on marijuana in Toledo District
Part of Herbicide spraying in Belize
The Toledo Star of Punta Gorda reported on 16 October 1983 that Mexican helicopters protected by the Belize Defence Force were spraying in Toledo. It wrote that they were spraying all the marijuana fields from Corozal down to Toledo District. The paper said that the government of George Price had launched the campaign the week before in collaboration with the Mexican government and with finance from the United States. It reported that the paraquat had touched corn, beans and coconut trees and that people feared for the creeks and waterholes they used for washing and drinking.
