The claim of United States finance is the Toledo Star's own: "The Government of Mr George Price in collaboration with the Mexican Government, and with finance from the Government of the United States launched the stamp-out campaign through the country of BELIZE last week." The other Belize papers read do not make it. A State Department official told a House committee on 12 and 13 October 1983 that Mexico had provided "aircraft and pilots to spray cannabis fields in Belize with paraquat".

Sources not used

The text read is the English excerpt in the Joint Publications Research Service, Latin America Report No. 2770 (JPRS 84872, 2 December 1983), pp. 35–36. The original issue of the Toledo Star was not consulted.

The Reporter of 9 October 1983 names four districts. Each is recorded in its own news item: Corozal, Orange Walk, Cayo and Toledo (this news item).

Map pin

The paper names the district, not a village. The pin is Punta Gorda, the district's seat, and marks the district.

These notes were recorded when the news item was prepared. Éloise 19:31, 21 October 2026 (+07)
