Aerial paraquat spraying of marijuana reported in Cayo District

The Reporter of Belize City wrote on 9 October 1983 that large-scale aerial spraying of paraquat in the Orange Walk, Corozal, Cayo and Toledo districts that week marked the start of the government's second offensive against marijuana. Two Mexican helicopters were doing the spraying under contract. The Toledo Star of Punta Gorda reported on 16 October that the health minister, Shoman, was said to have objected to the spraying of paraquat in his constituency in Cayo District because of its effects.
