Nakhon Si Thammarat is a landrace cannabis growing area covering Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, Thailand, in the Southern Thailand growing region. It holds six appellations: Lan Saka, Kiriwong, Phrom Khiri, Tha Sala, Sichon and Thung Song.

Geography

The growing area is the whole province. Four of its appellations are districts: Tha Sala, Phrom Khiri, Sichon and Thung Song. Lan Saka District is divided between two appellations. Kiriwong is the valley above the village of Khiri Wong, on the eastern side of Khao Luang, up to the mountain's ridge; Lan Saka is the rest of the district, to the south and east.

Cultivation

P. Suvarnakoses collected a plant at Khiri Wong on 16 December 1951. Its label calls the plant Kan cha, says it was used for smoking and adds: "Scattered in open area, uncommon, crop in garden".[1]

Two seed accessions of a line from Tha Sala District called Meun Sri date from 1990 and 2010. The other seed accessions were collected in April 2025 on the NST03 expedition, all from the 2023 harvest: five at Na Thon in Tha Sala, six at Ban Kachon in Lan Saka and one at Kiriwong. These accessions are sown directly from seed kept on the farm and grown for recreation and medicine; they flower in 20 to 24 weeks and stand 2 to 3 m tall. A further lot, Southern 'Squirrel Tail', names the province and no place within it.
