Tochigi General Population 1901 is a historical seed accession of Cannabis sativa that the United States Department of Agriculture received from Japan on 20 April 1901 and numbered plant introduction (PI) 6317.[1] No seed of the lot survives. The National Plant Germplasm System, whose database carries the department's introductions, says the accession "no longer exists and can not be requested".[1]
The lot
The seed came in a collection of miscellaneous seeds from the Tokyo Seed and Plant Company, received on 20 April 1901. The department's printed inventory lists it as hemp under the name Tochigi, one of five hemps in the collection, with no description.[2] Later Tochigi hemp reached the department from the Yokohama Nursery Company in 1915 (NPG-JPN-TOC-0019150001) and 1916 (NPG-JPN-TOC-0019160001).
