Tochigi General Population 1915 is a historical seed accession of Cannabis sativa that the United States Department of Agriculture received from Tochigi, Japan on 18 January 1915 and numbered plant introduction (PI) 39738.[1] No seed of the lot survives. The National Plant Germplasm System, whose database carries the department's introductions, says the accession "no longer exists and can not be requested".[1]

The lot

The department procured the seed from the Yokohama Nursery Company. Its printed inventory gives the lot as hemp received on 18 January 1915, with the note "Tochigi production; slender tall variety."[2] In 1916 the same nursery sent further Tochigi hemp, with a longer account of the crop (NPG-JPN-TOC-0019160001).[3]
