Koelz 8456 is an accession record for a pressed herbarium specimen of Cannabis sativa collected by Walter Koelz at Kolung, Lahul, Punjab, on 20 June 1936. The locality is now generally written Kolong and lies in Lahaul and Spiti District, Himachal Pradesh, India.[1] The New York Botanical Garden holds the sheet as catalogue 1414438.[2] GBIF publishes it as occurrence 1929707380.[3]
Collection and locality
Koelz's Plants of India label records Kolung, Lahul, Punjab, an altitude of 11,000 feet, collection number 8456 and the date 20 June 1936.[4] The stated altitude converts to approximately 3,353 m and is stored in the infobox. Current Himachal Pradesh government records list Kolong in the Lahaul block of Lahaul and Spiti District.[1]
Specimen and identification
The sheet bears an identification of Cannabis sativa L. initialled "RRS" and mounts fruiting branches.[4] In August 1975, Ernest Small redetermined the specimen as Cannabis sativa subsp. indica (Lam.) E.Small & Cronquist, the name under which GBIF publishes the occurrence.[4][3]
