Hummel 1330 is a herbarium accession of cultivated Cannabis sativa collected at Camp XI by the Tsachan tjollo Gol, in southern Mongolia, now Inner Mongolia, China, on 1 August 1927 by David Hummel, physician of Sven Hedin's Sino-Swedish Expedition. The Swedish Museum of Natural History holds the sheet as S-GH-1666.[1]
Collection and locality
The printed label reads Expeditio centrali-asiatica sub duce D:ris Sven Hedin (the Central Asian expedition led by Dr Sven Hedin), Mongolia australis and D. Hummel. It is completed by hand with the number 1330, the place Tsachan tjollo Gol, Camp. XI, the note cult. (cultivated) and the date 1/8 1927; the word before Tsachan is not clear.[2] The catalogue gives the locality as Honnin Tsachan tjollo gol, Camp. XI – Cult., the province as Inner Mongolia and the date as 1 August 1927, with no number.[1]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries one leafy stem with a flowering top and a root. The label names it Cannabis sativa L., determined by G. Sam. in 1931, and a slip of 9 May 2003 confirms the name: est!, Teste A. Borodina-Grabovskaja (LE).[2] Hummel collected cannabis again the next summer in the Bogdo Ola, in Xinjiang: Hummel 164 (1928), 679, 874, 908 and 909.
