Discussion
Evidentiary scope
The label records a cultivated plant at the expedition's Camp XI in August 1927. It gives no use, name or field. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read twice, independently, from the holder's large image (1838 × 3000 pixels).
- Printed label, completed by hand: Expeditio centrali-asiatica sub duce D:ris Sven Hedin. / Mongolia australis: / 1330. Cannabis sativa L. / det. G. Sam. 1931. / Ho?nin Tsachan / tjollo Gol, Camp. XI, cult. / 1/8 1927 / D. Hummel.
- Confirmation slip. est! 9 V 2003 Teste A. Borodina-Grabovskaja (LE).
The first word of the place was read once as Ho[n/r]nin and once as Hormin[?]. The page quotes the catalogue's Honnin as the catalogue's and states the agreed remainder.
Georeferencing
No coordinate is asserted. Tsachan tjollo Gol (a Mongolian river name) and the expedition's Camp XI were not located in the gazetteers consulted, and the label gives no altitude. The province field takes Inner Mongolia, with the catalogue; the label says Mongolia australis, southern Mongolia.
Editorial treatment
Number. The catalogue has no number; the label gives 1330, which the title takes.
Collector. The collector field keeps the label's D. Hummel. He is David Hummel (1893–1984), the Swedish physician of Hedin's Sino-Swedish Expedition of 1927–1935, and the prose links that form.
Determiner. G. Sam. is the standard abbreviation of Gunnar Samuelsson (1885–1944) of the Stockholm museum; the identified-by field takes G. Samuelsson.
Source discrepancies
- The catalogue gives no number; the label gives 1330.
