Bon 2113 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa gathered from a cultivated male plant at Lan Mát, in Tonkin, northern Vietnam, on 10 May 1883 by the missionary Henri François Bon. The Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle holds the gathering on two sheets, P06884277 and P06884282.[1][2] The label gives the plant's name as Gai.
Collection and locality
Both sheets carry the same printed label, headed Herbarium Missionis Tunquini Occidentalis (herbarium of the mission of West Tonkin), filled in by hand: 2113 (H.N.) Lan Mát, 10 Maii 1883. (Cult.), signed Ipse legi H. Bon (I collected it myself).[3][4] A printed museum label below reads Plantes du Tonkin méridional. Le R. P. Bon, 1883–1891.[3] The catalogue gives the locality as Tonkin, Lan Mat, the date as 10 May 1883 and the collector as Bon, H.F., number 2113, with the remark Cult.[1]
Recorded local name and use
The label writes Gai = Cannabis, giving Gai as the name of the plant, and marks it (Cult.), cultivated.[3] The catalogue keeps the cultivation remark and leaves out the name.[1]
Specimen and identification
The label determines the plant as Cannabis sativa (masc.), a male plant, on both sheets.[3][4] Each sheet carries a branched flowering stem with large compound leaves and open clusters of male flowers. The catalogue records the plant as Cannabis sativa L., determined by Querido.[1] Bon gathered cannabis again at Lan Mát the next year: Bon s.n., Lan Mát (1884).
