Banerjee 263 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at Motihari in East Champaran District, Bihar, India, on 20 August 1964 by S. P. Banerjee. The Forest Herbarium (BKF) in Bangkok holds the sheet as accession BKF 77674, barcode SN 063406.[1]
Collection and locality
The sheet carries the printed label of the Central National Herbarium (CAL), Botanical Survey of India, Indian Botanic Garden, Howrah, filled in by hand in purple ink. It is headed Flora of Bihar and gives the collection number as 263, the date as 20.8.1964 and the locality as Motihari.[2] It leaves the local name, altitude and notes blank. A tag tied to the stem repeats the number 263.[2] The Forest Herbarium's catalogue gives the date as 20 August 1964 and the collector as Banerjee, S.P.[1]
Specimen and identification
The label places the plant in the family Urticaceae and names it Cannabis sativa Linn. It leaves the line for the determiner blank.[2] The catalogue records the plant as Cannabis sativa L.[1] The sheet carries a slender, leafy branch in flower. The Forest Herbarium's accession stamp on the sheet is dated 24.2.83.[2]
