Anon. s.n., Kyoto is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa from Japan, gathered on 2 September 1905, on the printed label of the specimen department of the Kyoto firm Shimadzu, with the Japanese name asa. Its place line is blurred and appears to name Kyoto. The Peking University Herbarium in Beijing holds the sheet as PEY0036145.[1]
Collection and locality
The label is a printed form whose foot reads 島津製作所標本部撰集 (selected and collected by the specimen department of Shimadzu Seisakusho). It gives the family as 桑 科 and Moraceae., the Japanese name ア サ (asa, hemp) with Cannabis sativa L., and the date 明治卅八年九月二日採集 (gathered on the second day of the ninth month of the 38th year of Meiji, 2 September 1905). The place line below the date is blurred in the published scan and appears to read 日本京都 (Japan, Kyoto). A pencilled number, 491, stands at the top of the label.[2] The catalogue gives Kyoto and the same date, with 491 as the number.[1] GBIF gives Kyoto and the year 1905.[3] A second sheet on the same printed form, of 1930, is Anon. s.n., Tokyo (1930).
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries one branched stem with palmate leaves of long, narrow, toothed leaflets and open, branched flowering clusters at the top.[2] The label names it Cannabis sativa L. without a determiner's name, and the catalogue files the sheet under the same name, in the family Moraceae.[1]
