Anon. s.n., India is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa whose only place is the word India on its label. The sheet came from the Gower Collection, purchased in 1896. The sheet is E00248613 at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.[1][2]
Labels
A handwritten label, threaded onto the stem, reads Cannabis sativa and, encircled, India. A printed slip at the foot reads Gower Collection. Purchased 1896.[3] The collector in Edinburgh's catalogue entry is William Hugh Gower.[1] William Hugh Gower (1835–1894) was a horticulturalist whose herbarium material is at Edinburgh and Kew.[4]
Specimen and identification
One leafy, flowering branch is mounted on an older, smaller sheet of paper, which is mounted in turn on the Edinburgh sheet.[3] The label and the catalogue name the plant Cannabis sativa.[3][1]
