Anon. s.n., Harbin is a herbarium accession of three seedlings of Cannabis sativa collected on Chinese ploughland east of the experimental field of the Chinese Eastern Railway near Harbin, Heilongjiang, China, on 12 May 1924. Its slip gives the collector's name only in abbreviation. The Tianjin Natural History Museum holds the sheet as TIE 00004152[1].
Collection and locality
The sheet carries a slip handwritten in Russian. It gives the date 12 May 1924, the name Cannabis sativa L. and the Russian word for hemp, конопля, and the place: Окрестности Харбинскаго опытнаго поля К.В.ж.д. К востоку от грани опытнаго поля на китайских пашнях (environs of the Harbin experimental field of the Chinese Eastern Railway; east of the boundary of the experimental field, on Chinese ploughland). It ends Собрал (collected by), followed by an abbreviation and the initial К. A purple stamp, M.N.-E., a struck-out number and the number 14524 in pencil are also on the slip. The sheet also carries a printed French form headed Herbier, with lines for the family, the scientific and common names, the station, the locality, the date and the plant's properties and uses, with only the family, Moraceae and 大麻科, and the name Cannabis sativa L. filled in.[2] The catalogue gives the year 1924 and Inner Mongolia, with no collector.[1]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries three seedlings, each with its two seed leaves, its first true leaves and a thread-like root. The slip and the form name them Cannabis sativa L., with no determiner.[2] The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its sheet images under a non-commercial, no-derivatives licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0); they are read and cited here, not reproduced.
