Wang 70262 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at A-tun-tze (Atuntze, now Shengping, the seat of Deqin County), in Yunnan, China, at 2,700 m in September 1935 by C. W. Wang. The Institute of Botany, Jiangsu Province and Chinese Academy of Sciences in Nanjing holds a sheet as NAS00290132[1], and the Northwestern Institute of Botany in Yangling a second as WUK0047765[2].
Collection and locality
The sheet carries the typed distribution label of the herbarium of the Fan Memorial Institute of Biology, Peiping, headed Flora of Yunnan: the collector C. W. Wang, the field number 70262, the locality A-tun-tze, the date Sept. 1935 and the note Alt. 2700 m.; under ground herb; fr. green. A printed tag reads Yunnan, C. W. Wang and 1935-36, with the number in red.[3] The catalogue gives the collector, the number, the year and Yunnan.[1] The Yangling sheet carries the same Fan Memorial Institute label and a printed tag, Yunnan C.W.Wang, 1935-36, with the number in red.[4] Wang 69367 (1935) was gathered by the same collector at A-tun-tze in the same month, at 3,000 m.
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries a long, arching stem with its root and a few leafy flower clusters near the top. The label names it Cannabis sativa L., determined by K. C. Kuan.[3] The Yangling sheet carries a leafy stem with narrow leaflets and small fruiting clusters, and a slip of May 1960 naming it Cannabis sativa Linn.[4] The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its sheet images under a non-commercial, no-derivatives licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0); they are read and cited here, not reproduced.
