2018 RSC Sheberghan Reproduction is seed grown outside Afghanistan from Sheberghan General Population 2018, a landrace that Landrace Genetics collected in Jowzjan Province, northern Afghanistan, from the 2018 harvest. It is the seed The Real Seed Company (RSC) sells under the listing Sheberghan.[1] The listing shows it out of stock at RSC and on its Kwik Seeds site (checked 27 October 2026).[1][2]
Production
Since October 2023 the listing has said that the seed on sale is "stock from an ex-situ maintenance grow using open pollination (August 2023)".[3] The Kwik Seeds listing, on the shop RSC calls its other site,[4] dates the maintenance grow to 2023.[2]
In August 2023 Angus gave two packets of the seed to the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System, which holds it as accession G 33757 at its Plant Genetic Resources Unit in Geneva, New York.[5][6] The donor's note calls it seed from an ex situ maintenance grow of a charas landrace collected near Sheberghan from the 2018 harvest, and says the maintenance grows used no more than a double-digit number of parent plants.[5] The entry also reports that the unit chose a plant of this accession for a reference genome assembly in its 2024 sequencing project, with the data due to be published in 2027.[5]
Botanical Characteristics
The listing's photographs, added from October 2023, show plants of the line growing under a plastic tunnel and outdoors; they carry no captions.[3]
Source accession
The seed was collected from charas farmers in Jowzjan Province from the 2018 harvest.[1] The geography, history and description RSC gives for the line are on the page of the collection, Sheberghan General Population 2018.
