Cultivation
The Ministry of Defence's eradication data list 39 entries of marijuana eradicated in Planadas between June 2007 and January 2020, about 35 of the 150 hectares listed for the department. Most entries are of a hectare or less; one of 4.5 hectares dates from October 2015 and one of 4 hectares from November 2019.[1] A bulletin of the Centre for Regional Studies of the University of Tolima found that 43 per cent of the 64.75 hectares of marijuana eradicated by hand in Tolima in 2015–2020 was eradicated in Planadas.[2]: 14, 16
In January 2020 the armed forces reported that troops of the army's Sixth Brigade, with the air force and investigators of the attorney general's office, had found and destroyed marijuana in the vereda (rural district) of El Topacio, in Planadas: 1.5 hectares of plantations, about 200 kilograms of marijuana and 45 kilograms of seed plants. The bulletin said the plantation appeared to belong to the Tolima group of the "residual" armed organisation it calls the "GAO-r Sixth - Dagoberto Ramos".[3] An undated bulletin of the armed forces reports soldiers of the same brigade at El Topacio eradicating two hectares of marijuana, some 8,000 plants, two more hectares of young plants, another 8,000, and a seedbed of 500 plants. They found 286.5 kilograms of marijuana; the bulletin says the owner of the crop was under investigation.[4]
