Villamaría is a cannabis growing area in the department of Caldas, in Colombia, covering the municipality of Villamaría, next to the city of Manizales, on the western slopes of the Central Cordillera below the Nevado del Ruiz. It belongs to the Cordillera Central (Colombia) growing region.

Early reports

In 1961 the Colombian delegation to an inter-American consultative group on narcotics control, meeting in Rio de Janeiro, reported that marijuana was grown in Valle del Cauca, Caldas and Antioquia, drawing on a report of the country's secret police. In Caldas the report named Villamaría, a municipality near Manizales.[1]: 214–215 The historian Lina Britto writes that before the export boom of the 1970s marijuana in the Andean interior grew in scattered places, easily hidden among other cash crops, and that Manizales got its supply from neighbouring Villamaría.[2]: 73
