Young s.n., Kashmir is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected by A. P. Young in Kashmir in August 1880, on the road from Kampur to Baramula. Baramula is present-day Baramulla, in Jammu and Kashmir, India. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh holds the sheet as catalogue E00248609.[1] GBIF publishes it as occurrence 575057468.[2]
Collection and locality
The sheet carries one label, a blue card typed Ex Herbario Musei Britannici. Under it are the lines Cannabis sativa L., KASHMIR: Kampur to Baramula., August 1880. and Coll. A.P.Young.[3] The card is a herbarium label and not a field one. The sheet carries no original field slip. A pencil hand has written Urtic and the number 153 above it.[3]
The locality is given as a stretch of road and not a point. The label records no altitude and no habitat.[3] The catalogue gives the collector as Young, A. P. and the date as August 1880, with no locality at all.[1][2]
A second gathering from the same route and month is held by the Natural History Museum in London: sheet BM000547502 of Chaerophyllum reflexum, labelled Kampur & Baramula, August 1880, with the collector written out as Alfred Prentice Young.[4]
Specimen and identification
Three slender stems are mounted, each with narrow leaves and small axillary clusters.[3] The typed label names the plant Cannabis sativa L. and the catalogue records it under the same name.[3][1]
