Wungchilo is a cannabis growing area in Bhutan, a remote place in Jamkhar gewog (village block) of Trashi Yangtse. BBS reported in 2021 that it had "plenty of marijuana plants" and that people went there to make hashish to sell.[1] The area belongs to the Eastern Himalayas growing region.

Hashish making

Wungchilo lies far from any settlement, about four hours' walk from the road. A resident of Nyachi, the village from which it is reached, told BBS that strangers parked their cars near his house and walked on from there, some of them dressed as forestry officials, and that he had been threatened after reporting them.[1] In November 2021 a search for two young men reported missing in Trashi Yangtse found them at Wungchilo with three others, among them a 17-year-old, rubbing marijuana to make hashish; the police recovered 103 grams of hashish.[2]

Later that month police from the Doksum Community Police walked to the site and came on two men making hashish, who ran off and left behind a bag of cannabis leaves and 190 grams of hashish. The patrol uprooted the plants and burned them, and the police said they would go on patrolling the area without warning.[1]
