Why Wungchilo is a growing area

  • Two BBS reports by the same correspondent name the place. On 22 November 2021 BBS reported five people found "rubbing marijuana to make hashish in Wungchilo". On 24 November it reported that the site had "plenty of marijuana plants", that people went there to make hashish to sell, and that a police patrol uprooted and burned the plants.
  • Both reports come from one correspondent within three days, so the page is kept short. Neither says whether the plants were wild or planted; the article does not say either.

The name

The name is the one BBS uses. No other spelling was found, and the place could not be found on OpenStreetMap or in a web search.

Growing status

The status is Active, on the reports of November 2021. The patrol destroyed the plants it found; neither report says that cannabis no longer grows there.

Extent and border

  • Wungchilo could not be located more closely than its gewog. The border is a proxy: Jamkhar Gewog (OpenStreetMap relation 13424990), about 51 km², the figure in the infobox. It is far larger than the site, of which BBS says only that it is four hours' walk from the road and reached from Nyachi village.
  • The infobox point (27.41, 91.50) is the centre of the gewog, not the site.

Accessions

The wiki holds no accession from Trashiyangtse District. The Grierson sheets of 1979 come from the Gamri Chu in Trashigang District, to the south.
