Verner s.n. is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa gathered in the nearest environs of the town, in the Kokand uezd of the Fergana Oblast, today's Fergana Region, Uzbekistan, on 23 May 1910 by G. K. Verner, who noted it as very common everywhere. The Moscow University Herbarium holds the sheet as MW0818717.[1]
Collection and locality
The sheet is printed Hortus Botanicus Imperialis Petropolitanus. with the imperial eagle, and an oval stamp marks it as a duplicate from the St Petersburg garden. The typed label reads Г. К. ВЕРНЕРЪ. Растенія Ферганской области, Кокандскаго уѣзда. (G. K. Verner. Plants of the Fergana Oblast, Kokand uezd), completed by hand Ближайшія окрестности города; всюду очень обыкновенно. (the nearest environs of the town; everywhere very common), 23/V. 1910 г. and Cannabis sativa L.[2] The catalogue gives the collector and the date, with no locality.[1] The label does not name the town; Kokand was the seat of the uezd.
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries a single slender stem with palmate leaves, running up its left edge.[2] The label names the plant Cannabis sativa L. without a determiner. A typed slip gives the redetermination of the sheet by E. Small of Canada Agriculture in August 1975 as Cannabis sativa L., the name under which the catalogue files it.[2][1]
