Vanden Berghen 9803 is a herbarium accession of cultivated Cannabis sativa gathered by C. Vanden Berghen at Abéné, in Basse-Casamance, Senegal, on 23 August 1993. Its label records that the plant was grown in a market garden in a hollow in the coastal dunes, pour la "drogue" (for the "drug"). Meise Botanic Garden holds the sheet as BR0000014662546.[1][2]
Collection and locality
The collector's printed label is headed Coll.: C. Vanden Berghen, Senegal, with the number 9803. It reads Basse-Casamance and, by hand, Abéné, 23 août 1993 (23 August 1993) and an altitude of 3 metres. The habitat line reads Cultivé dans un "maraichage", dans une dépression dans les dunes littorales (cultivated in a market garden, in a hollow in the coastal dunes), and the observations line Cultivé pour la "drogue". (cultivated for the "drug").[3] The sheet is marked Acc. 1993. The catalogue gives the collector, the number and the country, with no date or place.[2]
Specimen and identification
The sheet holds several leafy branches with long, narrow leaflets.[3] The label names the plant Cannabis sativa L., family Cannabinaceae, and the catalogue files it as Cannabis sativa L.[2]
