Thollon 717 is a herbarium accession of cultivated Cannabis sativa gathered by F.-R. Thollon at Ndjolé, on the Ogooué River in what is now Moyen-Ogooué Province, Gabon, in January 1887. Its label records that the plant was Cultivé par les Pahouins (cultivated by the Pahouins, the Fang). The Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris holds three sheets of the number: P06829901, P06829898 and P06829900.[1][2][3][4]
Collection and locality
The sheet read for this page, P06829901, carries the museum's printed label. It reads Cannabis sativa L., with GABON. printed and CONGO. stamped in blue beside it, and, by hand, Cultivé par les Pahouins à N'Djolé. (cultivated by the Pahouins at N'Djolé) and Janvier 1887. (January 1887). The collector is printed as M. Thollon., and the number 717 is written at the top of the label.[5] The museum's catalogue gives the same place, month and year for all three sheets, and files them under the Republic of the Congo; Ndjolé is in Gabon.[2][3][4]
Tropicos, the database of the Missouri Botanical Garden, lists a Paris sheet of Thollon 717 from Ndjolé., in Moyen-Ogooué, determined by J. Villiers.[6]
Specimen and identification
The sheet holds one long stem, sparsely leafy, with a few palmate leaves near the top.[5] The label and the catalogue name the plant Cannabis sativa L.[2] The museum's catalogue records that leaf tissue was taken from P06829901 and P06829900 in March 2021 for C. J. Grassa of Harvard University.[2][4]
