Evidentiary scope
The label records the plant as planted among corn at a named village, gives a local name and one use, the leaves smoked. It is a single gathering and shows neither a continuing population nor a living germplasm holding, so it supports neither a landrace nor a feral classification. The accession is classified Other. No conservation priority is assigned.
With Maxwell 97-797, the male plant of the same day and place, the pair records both sexes of one village planting.
Georeferencing
The label names a mountain, a valley, a village and the subdistrict of Geut Chang in Mae Taeng District. None of the smaller names resolved in OpenStreetMap under the label's spellings, which are the collector's own. On Éloïse's ruling of 23 September 2026 the district is georeferenced rather than declined: the infobox holds 19.19, 98.87, the point OpenStreetMap gives for the administrative area of Mae Taeng District. It is an area point for the district, not a collection point, and it places the gathering only to within about 40 km. The district point stands at 617 m, well below the label's 1125 m, which is expected: the label's ground lies in the hills and the district point does not stand for it. This supersedes the refusal recorded here earlier, which declined a point under the coordinate ruling of 18 September 2026.
Editorial treatment
The common name on the male sheet, 97-797, was typed over its caption and could not be read with confidence. This label types it clearly, gun cha, and the local name field of this page holds it.
The accession is filed under Naturalis: its sheet is the one whose label can be read, and its image is free. Harvard's duplicate carries no image.
red Lahu is the label's term for the people of the village and is quoted, not replaced.
Source discrepancies
- The date. The Leiden label reads 30 July 1997, the same day as Maxwell 97-797 from the same village. Harvard's catalogue entry for its duplicate gives 30 August 1997. Harvard publishes no image, so the two cannot be reconciled from the sheets. The collection date field follows the label that can be read.
- Harvard's catalogue spells the village Peh Dang and the valley Gu Gahp; the Leiden label reads Pah Dang.
- Naturalis and GBIF give the country as unknown and no locality for this sheet; the country, province, district and locality here are read from the label image.
