Sources
- Indian Hemp Drugs Commission, vol. I, ch. VIII, para. 425, p. 157, is cited from the page image, where the word is printed in italics as lutki.
- Bhagwan Das (vol. V, Punjab witness no. 36, answer 29, p. 431) is cited from the text layer of the volume; he capitalises the name, Lutki. The commission's report does not name its witness for the word. A text-layer search of the Punjab evidence found no other witness who uses it, so the two citations may be one account; the article does not say that the report drew on him.
Is it cannabis?
- Bhagwan Das names bhang as the ingredient; the commission calls it a concoction of the hemp drugs with alcohol.
Kind and plant part
- Drink. Leaf: bhang.
- Country: India and Pakistan, because the Punjab of the 1890s, and Jhang in particular, now lies partly or wholly in Pakistan.
- Still made: not known from the sources cited.
Not used
- The commission's view that the practice implied "a recklessness in intemperance which is foreign to the Indian character" is a colonial judgement and is not reproduced in the article.
- Bhagwan Das's next sentence names another mixture, of opium, bhang, poppy heads, dhatura and country liquor. It is not on this page.
