Discussion

Why La Vega is a growing area

  • The only source for the area is the Ministry of Defence's open dataset, Erradicación. It lists 2 entries of marijuana eradicated in La Vega, on 8 April 2015 (1.3 hectares) and 19 May 2015 (2 hectares), 3.3 hectares in all (downloaded 4 November 2026). Eradication of a crop is evidence that it was grown where it was eradicated.
  • The status is Active: the entries are from 2015. No source says growing in the area has ended.

The name

The title is the municipality's name with the department in brackets: there is another municipality of La Vega in Cundinamarca.

Extent and border

  • The map border is the municipality of La Vega as drawn in OpenStreetMap (relation 1554704; DIVIPOLA code 19397), simplified, and meets the border of Southern Huila where La Vega adjoins San Agustín; about 520 km², the figure in the infobox.
  • The dataset gives no vereda, so the border takes in the whole municipality.
  • The point in the infobox is the centre of the border, not a field.

Sources

  • Ministry of Defence, Erradicación (open dataset). Rows for Cauca with crop type marihuana, municipality La Vega: 2 rows, 1.3 ha on 8 April 2015 and 2.0 ha on 19 May 2015.

Not used

  • In June 1968 the police found a farm planted with marijuana in Bolívar, in Cauca (Sáenz Rovner 2007, p. 220). Bolívar is a separate municipality, outside the area.
  • Marijuana eradicated elsewhere in the south of Cauca is outside the area: El Tambo (2.6 hectares, 2019), Balboa (1.4, 2013–2019), Argelia (0.6, 2017) and Mercaderes (0.5, 2014).
