Identifier

The accession identifier is KHA-ZAF-KZN-0120220001, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.

  • Holder segment KHA stands for Khalifa Genetics.
  • Province segment KZN is KwaZulu-Natal's standard abbreviation, since the listing names the province.
  • Year 2022 is the year of the earliest dated document found that lists the line: Khalifa Genetics' own product page, whose page data gives a publication date of 15 July 2022; the same date is in the Wayback Machine's earliest capture of the page, of 11 August 2022 (https://web.archive.org/web/20220811121954/https://khalifagenetics.com/product/80s-durban-poison/). No source gives a collection year, so, as for other vendor accessions without one, the identifier takes the first attested year. It is a lower bound, not a collection date, and moves if an earlier listing is found.
  • Month 01 is the placeholder used when the year comes from first attestation.
  • "80's" is part of the company's product name and its account of the seed's age, not a collection date: no source says when the seed was gathered or which grower's plants it came from.

Sourcing

Khalifa Genetics' own product page (https://khalifagenetics.com/product/80s-durban-poison/), read live on 12 October 2026 and in Wayback Machine captures of 11 August 2022 (the earliest) and 29 August 2025 (the latest, whose description matches the live page). The page links an interview with Ryan, which was not used.

ACE Seeds' English listing (https://www.aceseeds.org/en/seeds/durban-poison-80s-regular-seeds/), read live on 12 October 2026. ACE Seeds stocks the line and its listing reproduces much of Khalifa Genetics' text. Its specification table (Type and Genetics rows, flowering times, bouquet) is ACE's own and is cited to ACE.

Every statement about the line is the company's account of its stock and is attributed to it. Ryan and his father's friend are named by first name or not at all; no collection site is named.

Typing

  • Classification: Landrace. The company says that the seed came from old seeded buds kept by a man who had grown and sold Durban Poison in the 1980s, and places the line on the north coast of Durban. That places the source of the seed with a grower there. The accession is classified Landrace, by inference from the company's account, which names no farm or site. The account has not been checked against other sources. An earlier version of this note classified the line as Other, on the ground that a vendor listing does not establish the class of the source population.
  • Sourcing type: Unknown provenance. The chain of custody from the source population to the seed on sale is the company's account and no other source records it.
  • Accession type is left empty. ACE labels the seed P2, but no source names a documented parent collection.
  • Cultivation status: Unknown. The company's page offered seed on 12 October 2026 (marked in stock). That says nothing about whether the source population is still grown.
  • Traits. The flowering times are ACE's indoor figures; aroma and effects are the company's.

Figures as written

ACE: "11-15 weeks" indoors, entered as 11 and 15. The company's own figure is "a flowering time of 15 weeks outdoors"; its earliest capture (2022) said 18 weeks. The height of 4 m is the company's description of the plant and is not entered as a range. The THC reading of 16% has no laboratory or sample named.

Photographs

The 3 photographs on this page come from the image gallery of Khalifa Genetics' own listing for the line, as it stood on 12 October 2026, and were retrieved from the Wayback Machine's copies of the same files; each file page gives the source file and the capture. The gallery holds 5 photographs; the other 2 are not used here. The listing carries no captions and credits no photographer. The captions here describe only what each photograph shows. The listing gives no date, place or grower for any photograph, so the pictures illustrate the line as the seller presents it and are not collection documentation. They are used under a fair-use rationale.

Georeferencing

No point is given. "The north coast of Durban" and "the northern coastal belt of Durban" name no settlement or district. They can mean the northern part of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality (OpenStreetMap relation 610720, 2,290 km²) or the coast north of it, beyond the metro, and the listing does not say which. The province, KwaZulu-Natal (about 105,800 km²), is too large for a province-level point.

Conservation priority

Not rated. The listing gives nothing about the size or status of a source population.
