Discussion
Sources
- Manan and colleagues (2022), Biodiversitas 23(3): p. 1188 for the meaning of the name, the 44 plant ingredients and the large pan; Table 2 (p. 1193) for the ingredients with their botanical names.
- CNN Indonesia, 2 February 2020: Syardani M. Syarif's statement, the only source found that names this dish with cannabis seed.
Where the sources disagree
- Table 2 of Manan and colleagues lists the 44 ingredients of the porridge as made in Aceh Besar, each with its Acehnese name, family, part used and habitat. Cannabis is not among them. Syarif's statement and the study's list therefore do not agree. The article gives Syarif's statement as his and does not use the table to contradict it, since the study does not discuss cannabis.
Is it cannabis?
- The informant names biji ganja (cannabis seed). No test or botanical identification is reported.
Infobox
- first_recorded is 2020, the year of the only cited report of the dish with cannabis seed.
- still_made is Yes: Manan and colleagues describe the porridge as still cooked each Ramadan. It does not mean that cannabis seed is still added.
