Evidentiary scope

The labels place fruiting cannabis plants at Cha-pa, at 1,400 to 1,500 m, in December 1913. They do not say whether the plants were wild, escaped or cultivated, or what they were used for. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned. The living accession from the same district, ZOM-VIE-SAP-1120230001, was collected a century later and the two are not connected by any source.

Label reading

Georeferencing

The coordinate, 22.34, 103.84, is GeoNames' point for Sa Pa (alternate name Chapa), 22.34023, 103.84415, rounded to two decimals. SRTM gives 1,523 m there against the label's 1,400 to 1,500 m, which supports the identification. The point stands for the town, not for a collection site near it. Since 16 June 2025 Sa Pa is a ward (phường) of Lào Cai Province.

The elevation field stores the lower bound of the label's range, 1,400 m, as on Poilane 1897 (1920).

Editorial treatment

Two sheets, one accession. Both sheets carry the same number, date, place and height, so they are one gathering. P06780055 is the infobox image.

Collector. The collector field takes A. Chevalier, the form already stored on his Algerian accession. The prose links his full name, Auguste Jean Baptiste Chevalier.

Geography. The growing area takes Sa Pa and the growing region Northwest Vietnam, the values the living Sa Pa accession uses. The province takes the present-day Lào Cai Province; the label's colonial Province de Lao-Kay is quoted in the article.

Source discrepancies

  • The labels name the genus only; the catalogue's Cannabis sativa L. is Querido's later determination.

Source citations remain in the article. Éloise 00:28, 9 October 2026 (+07)
