Scheibe 82 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at Ischaghan-Serai, where the Pech river joins the Kunar, at about 820 metres, in Afghanistan, dated 1 June 1935 and collected by Arnold Scheibe. The place is today's Asadabad, in Kunar Province. The Natural History Museum, Vienna holds the sheet as W 1970-0008009.[1][2]
Collection and locality
The label, in Vienna's transcription, reads Afghanistan, Ischaghan-Serai, am Zusammenfluß von Tetsch und Kunar, ca. 820 m, that is, at the confluence of the Tetsch and the Kunar, with the date 1 June 1935 and the collector's number 82.[1] Chagha Serai is a former name of Asadabad, the provincial seat of Kunar, which stands where the Pech meets the Kunar.[3]
Specimen and identification
Ernest Small determined the plant Cannabis sativa in 1974 and subsp. indica in 1975, and Karl Heinz Rechinger confirmed the second determination in 1976. The sheet is filed under Cannabis sativa subsp. indica (Lam.) E. Small & Cronquist.[1] The catalogue notes that leaf tissue was removed from the sheet for DNA analysis for C. F. Grassa in 2018.[1]
