Rodin 1299 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa gathered in the Ketmen range, where a river comes out onto the plain, in Almaty Region, Kazakhstan, on 23 August 1931 by L. Rodin of the Ketmen expedition. The Moscow University Herbarium holds two sheets of the gathering, MW0818714[1] and MW0818712.[2]
Collection and locality
Both sheets carry the printed label of the herbarium of the Всесоюзный Научно-Исследовательский Институт Каучука и Гуттаперчи (All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Rubber and Gutta-percha), headed Л. Е. Родин и Ф. П. Мазанко. Кетменская экспедиция. (L. E. Rodin and F. P. Mazanko, Ketmen expedition), with the stamp L. Rodin. and the date and number 23.VIII 1931 г. № 1299. The two labels word the place differently: one Кетменский хребет. Выход на равнину р. (Ketmen range; where the river comes out onto the plain), the other Кетменский хребет. Сай р. (Ketmen range; the dry bed of the river), each followed by the river's name, which is not clearly legible.[3][4] The catalogue gives the collector and the date for both sheets, with no number or locality.[1][2]
Specimen and identification
MW0818714 carries a large, much-branched flowering top; MW0818712 a branched flowering stem with many leaves.[3][4] Both labels name the plant Cannabis sativa L. On MW0818714 a slip in violet ink, Cannabis ruderalis Janisch., dated August 1932 and stamped det. N. Pavlov, gives N. Pavlov's determination as Cannabis ruderalis Janisch., and beside it lie two slips of E. Small of Canada Agriculture: the first, on a printed form headed Annotated by Department of Agriculture, Ottawa and numbered RB 180, names the plant Cannabis sativa L. and is dated 1 September 1974; the second, of August 1975, names it Cannabis sativa L. subsp. sativa var. spontanea Vav.[3] No later slip was seen on MW0818712. The catalogue files both sheets as Cannabis sativa L.[1][2]
