Nanda Devi General Population 2024 is a landrace cannabis accession from the Kumaon Himalaya, in Uttarakhand, India, listed as Nanda Devi in the seed catalogue of The Real Seed Company (RSC).[1] RSC describes it as a specialised charas landrace grown in a few remote Kumaoni villages to the east of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary.[1] The line is out of stock at RSC and on its Kwik Seeds site (checked 27 October 2026).[1][2]
Geography
RSC places the landrace in a few remote Kumaoni villages situated to the east of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary, and gives a latitude of 29° N.[1]
History
RSC writes that, unlike the usual multipurpose fibre, seed and drug crops of the Himalaya, this strain is grown by farmers specifically for charas, and that its charas has a better, stronger high than that of the distinct, large-seeded domesticate, known as dati, which the same villages also grow. It describes the braided charas the strain produces as somewhat harder and coarser than the typical Parvati type.[1]
Collection Details
Cultivation Details
RSC gives the purpose as charas (hand-rubbed resin) and about five months from seed to harvest, and lists greenhouse or outdoor growing.[1] It writes that, unusually, the strain is allowed to sow itself, germinating in March, and is harvested from mid-August to mid-September during breaks in the monsoon rains.[1]
Botanical Characteristics
RSC gives a height of up to 5 metres outdoors and describes highly resinous, aromatic buds with floral, tangy, herbal and spicy aromas. It describes the high as soaring, evening out into a long-lasting buzz, and lists the strain as hardy and tolerant of humidity.[1]
