2020 RSC Moliotiko Reproduction is seed grown from Moliotiko General Population 2020, a cannabis landrace that The Real Seed Company (RSC) obtained in 2020 from farmers at Molos, in Central Greece. It is the seed RSC sells under the listing Moliotiko.[1]
Production
The listing describes the seed on sale as "High viability seeds reproduced from the original 2020 stock".[1] Every archived version of the listing, from the first of May 2022, sells a reproduction of the 2020 stock,[2] and the Kwik Seeds listing, on the shop RSC calls its other site, says the same.[3][4]
In August 2023 Angus gave a packet of Moliotiko seed to the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System, with a donor's note saying that the line had been "maintained one generation ex-situ from seeds direct from cultivators in Central Greece". The system holds it as accession G 33742 at its Plant Genetic Resources Unit in Geneva, New York.[5][6]
Plants in cultivation
The listing's photographs show plants in the vegetative stage at 40° N in mid-July, and RSC writes that those plants could be harvested in early September.[1] RSC writes that, sown outdoors at the start of the season at 40° N, Moliotiko begins flowering around the summer solstice and is ready by late August or early September.[7] In a test reported in February 2025, RSC counted it among the lines that performed excellently against powdery mildew.[8]
Source accession
The 2020 seed came from farmers who, RSC writes, had grown the strain for decades in Central Greece.[1] The strain's names, history and description are on the page of the collection, Moliotiko General Population 2020.
