Genetic Relationships

2018 RSC Tashkurgan Reproduction is seed grown outside Afghanistan from Tashkurgan General Population 2018, seed that a farmer near Tashkurgan, in Balkh Province, northern Afghanistan, gave from his 2018 harvest. It is the seed The Real Seed Company (RSC) sells under the listing Tashkurgan.[1] The line is on sale at RSC and on its Kwik Seeds site (checked 27 October 2026).[1][2]

Production

The listing states that "The current stock is a reproduction of the original accession through open pollination".[1] The sentence first appears in the version archived on 25 January 2021; the version of 19 January 2021 sold the collection itself.[3] The Kwik Seeds listing, on the shop RSC calls its other site,[4] does not mention the reproduction.[2]

In a post of May 2025 RSC described a Tashkurgan plant grown by a customer as from "a north Afghan landrace maintained from an accession originally collected by Lucas Strazzeri".[5]

Botanical Characteristics

Since August 2020 the listing has shown a photograph of the line titled "second generation", and since September 2024 photographs of plants beside a measuring pole.[6] In its post of May 2025 RSC showed a Tashkurgan seedling with leaves in whorls of four, a form it calls quatrifolia.[5]

Source accession

The seed was given by a farmer near Tashkurgan from his 2018 harvest, on 20 November 2018. The account of the gathering, and the geography, history and description RSC gives for the line, are on the page of the collection, Tashkurgan General Population 2018.
