Pokrovsky 56 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected in hollows between the hills around Hailar (Hailar), in Inner Mongolia, China, on 9 July 1918 by V. Pokrovsky. The Tianjin Natural History Museum holds two sheets, TIE 00004153[1] and TIE 00004148[2].
Collection and locality
Each sheet carries a slip handwritten in Russian with the same place and date: Окрестности Хайлара по ложбинам между сопками (environs of Hailar, in hollows between the hills), 9 July 1918. The slip on TIE 00004153 is numbered № 56; the slip on TIE 00004148 adds (падям) (valleys) and is signed Покровский (Pokrovsky). Each sheet also carries a printed French form headed Herbier, with lines for the family, the scientific and common names, the station, the locality, the date and the plant's properties and uses, on which TIE 00004153 has V. Pokrovsky and the station Barga-Harbin typed in, and TIE 00004148 the date 9.VII.1918.[3][4] The catalogue gives V. Pokrovsky, 1918 and Heilongjiang for the first sheet, and 1918 and Gansu for the second.[1][2]
Specimen and identification
TIE 00004153 carries several slender flowering stems, some with their roots; TIE 00004148 two slender plants, one with a male flowering tip. The slips and the forms name the plant Cannabis sativa L., with no determiner.[3][4] The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its sheet images under a non-commercial, no-derivatives licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0); they are read and cited here, not reproduced.
