DRI seizes about 740 kg of cannabis and charas in eight operations across India

The Ministry of Finance announced on 9 September 2026 that the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence had carried out eight operations over the previous fortnight, seizing about 740 kg of cannabis and charas and arresting 13 people under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. According to the release the total comprised 709.6 kg of ganja, 24.5 kg of high grade hydroponic cannabis and 5 kg of charas, taken in Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh and at airports in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. The release states that the charas recovered from three train passengers at Gorakhpur on 3 September had been smuggled from Nepal, and that the hydroponic cannabis was carried by passengers arriving from Hanoi and Bangkok. One officer was injured during an interception on the Aurangabad to Patna highway, and the driver of that vehicle escaped.
