Kakamega court sentences a woman to 50 years over 5 kg of bhang concealed in brooms in 2019

The Star reported an Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions statement that a Kakamega woman had been convicted of trafficking narcotic drugs and sentenced to 50 years in prison, with a fine of Sh50 million in the alternative. According to the statement, police acting on information from members of the public raided her rented house in the Murram area of Kakamega Central Sub-County on 12 June 2019 and recovered 22 brooms containing 5 kg of cannabis, valued by the prosecution at about Sh16,600.
